Quarter notes: upcoming

The University of Washington is staging Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” (May 15-17).  The Rainier Symphony takes on Mahler’s Symphony Nr.2 “Resurrection” this weekend (May 16-17).  The American String Project is presenting their annual series of concerts this weekend too (May 14-17).  This year, Barry Lieberman has arranged Prokofiev’s String Quartet Nr. 2 and Robert Schumann’s String Quartet Nr. 3 for string orchestra.

The Medieval Women’s Choir presents Italian songs from the 14th Century (May 16).  Olivia Block is at the Good Shepherd Center tomorrow and will be joined by a number of musicians including Paul Taub (flute), Tiffany Lin (piano), Jessie Canterbury (clarinet), and Lori Goldston (cello).  Marvin Hamlisch conducts the Seattle Symphony in a Pop’s concert featuring Kevin Cole playing Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” (May 14-17).  The Puget Sound Symphony wraps up their season with a concert featuring Gustav Holst’s “Planets” and “Overture” a piece written by one of the members of the orchestra (May 16).  On Sunday, Town Hall celebrates 10 years with free cultural events all day, including a performance by Quinton Morris (May 17).  Finally, tomorrow is the last chance to hear “Marriage of Figaro” over at the Seattle Opera and it is also an opportunity for “Ring” newbies to participate in an open audition for “Confessions” a reality-show-like contest to tie in with this summer’s “Ring”  (May 15).
